Rash driving

The road Palani Road from Dindigul seems to be dangerous for driving vehicles, with many buses criss-crossing the stretch. Most of vehicles cross the white line dividing the road. They frighten the vehicle drivers coming in the opposite direction. The plight of two-wheelers is pathetic. I request the authorities concerned to take immediate action against rash driving on the Palani Road.

Four-lane ECR

The Union Minister of State for Surface Transport, Pon. Radhakrishnan, has announced that the East Coast Road could be converted into a four-lane expressway, provided the governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry give support and co-operation. The ECR running from Chennai to Kanyakumari, via. Puducherry, is of immense use for people of coastal districts. If this road is widened and four-lane is laid, this will serve the public as an alternative route to Chennai from several southern districts and reduce the traffic congestion on the main highway and also the travel time. The number of vehicles has increased manifold and it is the need of hour that additional road routes are improved. I appeal to the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to give all assistance in this regard and to insist that the existing road is converted into four-lane at the earliest.

Provide air-conditioner

Fatal accidents take place frequently near Paramakudi on the Madurai-Rameswaram NH-49. There is no air-conditioning facility at the Paramakudi government hospital to preserve bodies of accident victims. I appeal to the authorities concerned to provide air-conditioning facility or freezers to preserve bodies.

Unfair bus fares

There are ordinary, express, LSS, super fast, deluxe, bypass riders, I-to-I and point-to-point buses operated on long-distance routes. Though all these buses are operated on the same road , with the same speed and same seating capacity, their fares are different and abnormal for the same distance. For example, the town bus fare from Madurai Periyar bus stand to Tirumangalam (18 km) in ordinary city bus is Rs. 9 but in all other city buses it is Rs. 17. It clearly shows that the government and transport corporation are much interested in earning money by fixing different and abnormal bus fares but not in the service of people. Rural poor workers and ordinary people are unaware of the difference in fare. Hence the city/town bus charges should be uniform in all kinds of buses, with a difference between ordinary and express buses.
