Ramnad and Sivaganga score well

S. Nithyasri of Vivekananda Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School in Rameswaram became the State topper by scoring 499 out of 500 marks. As many as 28 students – 14 each from Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts – secured the second and third State ranks in the SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on Thursday.

Both the districts have performed well and registered more than three per cent increase in the overall pass percentage over last year, and moved ahead in the State-level ranking chart. With an overall pass percentage of 96.75, an increase of 3.31 per cent over the previous year, Sivaganga has moved ahead to the sixth rank in the State from ninth rank last year.

Ramanathapuram has also come out with an impressive performance registering an overall pass percentage of 96.37, an increase of 3.26 per cent over the previous year, and secured the eighth rank in the State. Last year, the district stood at the 12th position.

The district has produced a State topper, four State second rank holders (498 marks) and 10 State third rank holders (497). Of the total 232 schools, 111 schools have produced 100 per cent results. They included 55 government schools, 16 private schools and 40 Matriculation schools, District Chief Educational Officer (CEO) K. Jayakannu said.

Of the 19,542 students, including 9,865 girls, who appeared for the examinations in Ramanathapuram district, 18,836 passed, with girls outshining boys. As many as 2,763 students scored centum in Science, 1,043 students in Social Science, 496 students in Maths and eight students in English, he said.

R. Sangeetha of RS Mangalam Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School was the district topper among government school students. She scored 496 marks with centum in Maths, Science and Social Science.

Sivaganga

In Sivaganga, 137 of the 261 schools produced 100 per cent pass. They included 50 government schools, 31 aided and self-financing and 56 matriculation schools, CEO S. Senthivel Murugan said.

In all, 20,684 students, including 10,250 girls, appeared for the examinations and 20,011 of them passed, he said. Four students secured State second rank with 498 marks and 10 students the third rank with 497 marks, he said. Two students scored centum in Tamil, 12 in English, 585 in Maths, 2,759 in Science and 1,755 in Social Science in the district, he added.
