Calls the ruling party a ‘partnership firm’

MGR Kazhagam president R.M. Veerappan, a close friend of actor Rajinikanth, on Friday expressed doubts whether the latter could manage a stable political party.

He addressed journalists on the sidelines of his party’s general council meeting in Chennai where it was decided to extend support to the DMK in the next Lok Sabha polls. To a query on actor Rajinikanth’s political aspirations, Mr. Veerappan described him as a “great human being” but remained doubtful of his success.

“Rajinikanth is a great actor. He will work for the betterment of the people. But I am doubtful as to whether he can manage a stable political party,” he said. The actor has acted in six films produced by Mr. Veerappan. He recalled that it was Mr. Rajinikanth who urged him to quit politics when the former faced problems due to the actor’s comments angering then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

‘Great human being’

“He is a great human being and a great spiritual individual. But, I don’t want to speak on his political ambitions,” Mr. Veerappan added. Asked about the AIADMK leadership, Mr. Veerappan said the ruling party presently was “not AIADMK at all”.

The present AIADMK, he charged, was a “partnership firm” that made business with the legacy of M.G. Ramachandran. “They are not bothered about politics or the people. They only want to stay in power and earn money through their posts. My friends are now Ministers and are ‘crorepatis’. Instead of calling them as Ministers, we can call them ‘crorepatis’,” he added.
