A hot air balloon adorned with life-sized images of actor Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar from director Shankar’s 2.0 will float over the ‘Hollywood’ signage in Los Angeles on Tuesday as Lyca Productions kickstart their promotional activities for arguably the costliest film ever made in India.
The 3-D film, the budget of which is believed to have touched ₹400 crore, is all set for a world-wide release on January 25 next.
Raju Mahalingam, creative head, Lyca Productions, said the hot air balloon will travel around the world and will be showcased in balloon festivals around the world. As we don’t look at this film as an Indian production but a Hollywood movie, we wanted to do something different. So, we ordered for a 100-foot-tall hot air balloon eight months ago. On Tuesday, the balloon will be up over the Hollywood signage in Los Angeles,” he said.
“The balloon will fly in London, Dubai, San Franscisco, South East Asian countries, Europe and Australia,” Mr. Mahalingam said. The production house is also planning to bring the hot air balloon to India and take it to various cities. “We hope to involve well-known film stars from across the country to participate in the ride,” he said.
Rajinikanth will have two releases next year — 2.0 and Kaala , which is directed by Pa. Ranjith.
