Rain-damaged roads to be restored soon

Recent rains that lashed the district have caused extensive damage to the highway roads and about Rs. 18 crore would be required for restoration works, District Collector V. Dakhinamoorthy said.

He said that the average rainfall in the district every year was 716 mm and the district received 541.39 mm during 2014-15. This year, the district received 660.24 mm of rainfall so far, which was 118.88 mm more than last year.

Landslips occurred at two places on the Ghat Road to Arthanareeswarar Temple in Tiruchengode and repair works were on. Roads in Komarapalayam and Tiruchengode municipality were also severely damaged. Works to restore roads will begin soon.

As many as 113 houses were damaged in floods and a relief of Rs. 6,82,599 has been disbursed. A proposal for Rs. 13 crore has been submitted to the government for repairing culverts, drains and waterways damaged in the rains.
