Rain in catchment areas continues

As the rain continues in the catchment areas of major waterbodies, the water level in Pechiparai and Perunchani dams would touch the full level soon, official sources here said. Water level in Pechiparai dam touched 43.52 feet as against its full level of 48 feet on Friday morning. Inflow into the dam was 1,320 cusecs, and the discharge was over 1,000 cusecs.

Similarly, the water level in Perunchani dam crossed 75 feet as against its full level of 77 feet and inflow stood at 1,649 cusecs and 1,102 cusecs was released in the Kuzhithurai Tamirabharani River. Water level in Chittar I stood at 17.02 feet and Chittar II was 17.12 feet as against its full height of 18 feet. The entire inflow into these dams was released into its downstream. The level in Mambazhathuraiaru was at 54.12 feet for the last few weeks and the discharge from this dam was 73 cusecs.

Water level of Mukkadal dam, a main source of drinking water for Nagercoil town stood at 22 feet as against its full level of 25 feet. Intermittent drizzle continued in many parts of the district since Thursday night.

Rainfall registered in various places in mm were; Pechiparai 10.4, Perunchani 33.4, Chittar I 21, Chittar II 27.4, Poigai 5.2, Mambazhathuraiaru 26, Colachel 26.4, Nagercoil 24.8, Mullanginavilai 34, Balamore 27.2, Surulode 31.2, Thirparappu 22.6, Eraniel 19.4, Mukkadal 30, Kottaram 9 and Mayiladi 11.4. Meanwhile, ban on bathing and boating in Thiraparppu falls continues for the last few days.
