Railway gate

Whenever there is an election in Tirunelveli, most of the political outfits promise the construction of a flyover to connect Palayamkottai bus stand with Perumalpuram, Kulavanigarpuram and Veinthankulam. It becomes a non-issue after the election. None of the political parties talks about this perennial problem caused by closure of the railway level crossing during busy hours to allow trains. Will the authorities or any political party take up the case and initiate steps to build a flyover which will be helpful to many people who face hardships, as the railway gate is closed six times a day.

Bad road

Recently, I visited Idaiyangudi, a historical village in Tirunelveli district where the Scotland-born Dravidian linguist Robert Caldwell died and the Government of Tamil Nadu has constructed a memorial to honour him. I could see many tourists visiting the place.

But reaching Idaiyangudi from Nanguneri by road is a hard task. Except for about 10 km near INS Kattabomman, the rest of the 30-km road is awfully bad, especially while crossing Thisayanvilai, a business centre, the road is full of potholes for about 5 km. I request the authorities and the elected representatives to take steps to relay the road properly to facilitate a smooth ride to Idaiyangudi from National Highway 7 at Nanguneri.

Drowning

It often occurs that children as well as youth lose their lives by drowning in waterbodies while taking bath, as they are not familiar with the art of swimming. Hence, it is imperative on the part of the government of Tamil Nadu to create public awareness through TV channels about the risk inherent in entering waterbodies.

K. Chelliah,

Aundivillai.
