BJP general secretary Muralidhar Rao on Friday blamed ‘radicalgroups’ for the attempt on the lives of party functionary M. Ashwin Kumar and his father K. Malaimegam.
Talking to reporters after visiting Mr. Malaimegam, who is undergoing treatment at the Government district headquarters hospital here, Mr. Rao said the incident showed that ‘jihadi groups’ were active and in full control in the State.
In the last few years, whether the State was ruled by the DMK or the AIADMK, BJP leaders were targeted but the government had not taken any severe action against the ‘jihadi groups,’ he alleged.
It was unfortunate that the police, instead of taking action against these groups, filed cases against the victims, Mr. Rao said, adding in this instance also, the police had filed a case against Ashwin Kumar. “The government is terrorising the democratic network of the BJP and we are very serious about it,” he said.
Holding the State government responsible for the violence, the BJP leader said the party would build public opinion against the government. The Centre should also take immediate note as otherwise law and order in the State would deteriorate further, he said.
