Quizzers engage in a battle of trivia

Nearly 400 students from schools in the region participated; competitions were held both at school and college level

Some of the best quizzers in the region were in full form at the SMVEC Rolling Trophy inter-school and inter-college quiz competitions held last week. The competitions were organised by the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry. The inter-school competition was conducted by S. Muthukumaran, founder of The Sky Is Our Limit (SIOL), a quizzing society based in Puducherry, and saw around 400 students from different schools in and around Puducherry participating, said a release from the college. V. Vishnupriya and M. Swetha of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School, Puducherry won the top place. In the inter-college quiz, Sai Balamurugan and Saravanan of Pondicherry Engineering College took the top honours.

For a healthy life

Emphasising on the need for sports for a healthy life, Director-Principal of the Christ College of Engineering and Technology, Puducherry, distributed prizes to the winners of the inter-college table tennis competition held recently. Twelve teams from the men’s division and ten teams from the women’s division had participated in the competition hosted by the college on behalf of Pondicherry University. Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Pondicherry Engineering College and Pondicherry University won the top three prizes in the men’s division, while Bharathidasan Government College for Women, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College and Pope John Paul II College Of Education bagged the first three prizes in the women’s division, said a release from the organisers. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Sivaraman, Assistant Director, Physical Education Department, Pondicherry Engineering College, who delivered the guest address. It was also attended by S.R.S. Paul, MD, Christ College of Engineering and Technology.

The Adhiparasakthi Engineering College, Melmaruvathur, also registered some sporting activity during the Annual Sports Award programme held last week, in which Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education P. Palaniappan distributed the awards.

The programme was attended by V. Ramasamy, Principal.
