“Protect fishermen’s interest”

Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader and local MLA M H Jawahirullah has urged the State government to fix the procurement price for prawns and other export items of seafood on the lines of fixing prices for paddy and sugarcane in the state.

Referring to the strike by Rameswaram fishermen, protesting against the low price offered the export companies for prawns, crab and other export items after forming a syndicate, the MLA, in a statement here on Sunday said the government should protect the interest of the fishermen as it protected the interests of farmers.
