The traffic police in the city intensified awareness campaign on the importance of wearing helmets here on Thursday.
As part of the campaign, traffic police personnel distributed pamphlets explaining the advantages of wearing helmets to two-wheeler riders at Clock Tower.
They also appealed to the riders to strictly follow traffic rules and wear helmets.
They cautioned that action would be initiated against two-wheeler riders if they failed to wear helmets from July 1.
Police personnel distributed pamphlets on Corporation Road, at Periyar statue junction, bus stand and Nagal Nagar.
The traffic police had also planned to display banners on autorickshaws, organise rallies involving students, and screen short films explaining the importance of wearing helmet among students, said North Police Station Inspector Para Vasudevan.
