Prohibition offender held

Police have arrested a 45-year-old woman, a habitual prohibition offender, on Wednesday night.

Based on information, a team led by Vanitha, Deputy Superintendent of Police-Vaniyambadi sub-division went to a field near Nethaji Nagar where Maheswari along with eight men were packaging illicit liquor from two barrels at around 8.30 p.m.

On seeing the police, the eight men fled, while Maheswari was nabbed when she tried to escape in a two-wheeler.

Personnel attached to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) said she has been involved in selling illicit liquor for 10 years.

Habitual

“She is a habitual offender and has been imprisoned a number of times. She has been booked in seven cases so far. She gets the rectified spirit from Kancheepuram,” an officer said.
