Progress of welfare schemes reviewed

Asia Mariyam, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration, reviewed the progress of welfare schemes in Salem Corporation and in 14 municipalities in Salem region here on Wednesday.

Ms. Asia Mariyam held discussion with the officials on creation of new women self-help groups under the National Livelihood Mission, provision of revolving fund to the women SHGs, monitoring the functioning of women SHGs and involving the members in the economic development activities.

Infrastructure

She also discussed the schemes for creation of infrastructure in urban areas, houses for all, development of huts, census of roadside vendors and provision of identity cards to them.

Ms. Asia Mariyam called upon the officials to take effective steps for the economic development of the women SHGs functioning in their limits.

She gave away revolving fund of Rs. 10,000 each to 15 women self-help groups. K. R. Selvaraj, Corporation Commissioner, M. Elangovan, Executive Director of Salem Regional Municipal Administration, senior officials of Salem Corporation, commissioners and other officials of various municipalities participated in the review meeting.
