‘Prakruti putting upbrave fight’

Nivya Prakruthi celebrated her 24th birthday on March 6 and went on the Kurangani trek on March 10, her star birthday. On March 11, she was injured in the fire that claimed 11 lives. Now, she is bravely fighting the odds.

Ms. Prakruthi suffered 45% burns and is being treated at a hospital in Madurai.

“Her face, fingers, hands and thighs have burn injuries, and the doctors are now taking her for an operation,” Ms. Prakruthi’s mother Vijaya Hethirajan told The Hindu. The family lives in Nanganallur in Chennai.

Ms. Prakruthi, Ms. Vijaya’s only child, was with two other trekkers when the fire engulfed them.

“The trekkers first saw some smoke down below, but thought it was just that. They started having lunch, and some of them lay down to rest, but the smoke turned out to be the fire that engulfed them,” Ms. Vijaya said.

She added that her daughter was bravely fighting her injuries.
