The Ponneri situated near Gangaikondacholapuram is fast nearing its full capacity thanks to the good inflow following the spell of monsoon rain in the district.
The tank situated about eight km from Jayamkondam and about one km away from Gangaikondacholapuram. While the tank’s storage level is 17 feet, the water level stood at 16 feet on Wednesday.
The tank has a capacity of 114.46 million cubic feet and it irrigates fields in Pichanur, Kuruvalaparkovil, Ilayaperumalnallur, Gangaikondacholapuram, Utkottai, Ayudhakalam, and other neighbouring villages.
District Collector A. Saravanavelraj inspected the tank on Wednesday and said the tank was expected to reach it full capacity on Wednesday night. In a press release later, he said a vigil was being maintained on the tank bunds.
Deiveegan, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Maruthaiyar Division, was present.
