The Madras High Court has dismissed an election petition challenging the election of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa from the R.K. Nagar Assembly Constituency as abated taking note of her demise.
Justice M. Duraiswamy passed the order on a plea moved by independent candidate of the constituency G. Pravina. According to the petitioner, the Returning Officer of the constituency refused to give her permission to campaign and her request to use vehicles for campaigning was also turned down. She alleged that the pot symbol allotted to her was not provided by the election officer. She claimed that a complaint in this regard to the Chief Election Officer (CEO) on May 15, 2016 was not entertained by the officer.
