Police Commemoration Day observed in districts

Top police officials and senior bureaucrats of the district on Wednesday paid tributes to the policemen and other uniformed personnel who laid down their lives while discharging duty.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, S. Murugan, who is also Tirunelveli City Commissioner of Police (In-charge), Superintendent of Police, Tirunelveli, V. Vikaraman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Rajan, placed wreaths on the Martyrs’ Memorial on the Armed Reserve Police Grounds.

A total of 436 police personnel have lost their lives while discharging their duty during the past one year.

This day is observed as the Police Commemoration Day on October 21 every year since 1959 in memory of the police personnel killed by Chinese troops at Hot Spring in Ladakh.

Tuticorin

Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis along with his colleagues observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the personnel who sacrificed their lives. Wreaths were placed at the memorial.
