Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) R. Thirnavukkarasu told The Hindu that the cyber crime experts in the city police have started an inquiry into the complaint given by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members on the ‘objectionable’' content on a particular Facebook page.
On Wednesday, the AAP members gave a petition to Mr. Thirunavukkarasu that a ‘community page’ on the social networking site, with a profile picture of a girl, contains photographs of many young girl students in Tirupur with vulgar comments posted alongside.
“It also contains obscene photographs of women too,” S. Sundarapandian, district convener of the AAP, told The Hindu .
Authenticity
Mr. Sundarapandian said that the AAP approached the police after certain people approached the party seeking their help to check the authenticity of the page.
Mr. Thirunavukkarasu said all aspects regarding the particular Facebook page including who opened the account and whether the profile photograph of the girl was posted with or without consent of the person would be inquired.
