‘PM’s response to vision document heart-warming’

Knitwear exporters from Tirupur cluster who handed over a copy of ‘Vision 2020’ document prepared by them to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in person, told The Hindu that Mr. Modi’s response to the initiatives planned for increasing business turnover from Tirupur was heart-warming.

“We have requested him to release the document as many of the projects that the cluster planned to increase the business turnover (both export and domestic sales) from nearly Rs. 30,000 crore at the moment to Rs. 1 lakh crore by 2020, needed government support. Mr. Modi has told that his office will contact us to inform when the document could be released by him”, said Raja M. Shamugam, who was one among the Tirupur exporters who met Mr. Modi to present the ‘Vision 2020’ document and brief the scenario in Tirupur knitwear cluster.

The Vision document was prepared by NIFT-TEA Knitwear Institute, Sripuram Trust formed of textile stakeholders, and Confederation of Indian Industry.

The exporters had sought immediate creation of a Knitwear Board in Tirupur.
