Voices against Hindutva seem to be growing louder among political parties in the State.

While the VCK, led by Thol Thirumavalavan, is all set to stage protest on Tuesday against the alleged “fascist Hindutva policies” of the Centre, the DMK and the PMK joined the chorus in condemning the Centre on Monday over issues of reconversion and imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit across the country.

In a statement, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said the Department of Official Language functioning under the Union Home Ministry had directed all nationalised banks to use Hindi instead of English in all money transactions.

“It has also decided to print ATM slips in Hindi and convert the websites of banks into Hindi,” he said, adding that despite repeated condemnation, the Centre has not changed its attitude.

Already the Sangh Parivar was reconverting Christians and Muslims to Hinduism, including eight Christian families in Kerala.

“They are doing it in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat have talked about anti-conversion legislation. BJP president Amit Shah has also reiterated the point,” he noted.

PMK leader S. Ramadoss also pointed to attempts at reconverting Muslims and Christians by Sangh Parivar organisations.

He wondered if these were initial attempts to change the country into a Hindu nation.

The BJP was voted to power with a majority by the people as they wanted a reversal of the slide the country faced under the UPA-regime and not for converting India into a Hindu State.

“Instead of setting right the slide in economy that is continuing, it is not healthy to implement the personal agenda [of Sangh Parivar],” he said and added that the Centre should give up the idea of bringing in anti-conversion law.

Vasan slams Modi govt.

At a Christmas celebration, TMC president G.K. Vasan slammed the Modi government for being the force behind the RSS and the VHP in its bid to reconvert those of other faiths. Mr. Vasan said his party would go all out to oppose such an agenda.
