PMK not to contest Srirangam byelection

January 20, 2015 07:03 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 05:20 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will neither contest nor support any political party in the Srirangam byelection, party leader S. Ramadoss announced on Tuesday.

A resolution adopted in the administrative council meeting of the party reiterated that byelections were unnecessary and whenever a seat fell vacant, political parties that had won it should be allowed to nominate its candidate.

“It has been clearly established that only ruling party can win by-elections in Tamil Nadu. That is why the PMK decided to keep away from by-polls, barring the by-poll to Pennagaram Assembly constituency,” he said.
