PMK flays U-turn on admission norms

‘The reasons cited by Minister for the move are perplexing’

PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday criticised School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan’s announcement that only the Class XII State public examination marks would be considered for admissions to higher education courses.

The move marks a reversal of an earlier announcement by the State government that the marks scored in the Class XI exams would also be taken into account.

“The decision to take the Plus-One public examination marks into account for admissions was welcomed. The reason was that in most schools across the State, the Plus-One syllabus was ignored, and was not taught properly in 90% of the private schools. The decision was seen as an effort to curb the practice of schools teaching the Plus-Two syllabus for two years in a bid to ensure that the students score well in the Plus-Two public examinations,” he said.
