Plea to save deer population

The residents of Krishanapuram, living on the fringes of the reserve forests in Sirupakkam area inVillupuram district, have appealed to the authorities to take appropriate measures to save the deer population from poaching and dying in road accidents.

In a representation addressed to the forest officials the residents stated that a large number of deer, rabbits, wild boar and porcupines were found in the huge forest area, spanning over 2,445 hectares.

Deer were particularly seen along the banks of the stream running through the forest, for a distance of 15 km, from Karundhalakurichi to Eeriyur.
