Plea to repair damaged roads in Coimbatore

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:54 am IST - ERODE:

Members of United Communist Party of Tamil Nadu (TUCP) staged a demonstration on Tuesday charging the City Corporation with not doing enough to set right the roads damaged due to digging of holes for the underground drainage project.

Stating that the potholes had become bigger after the monsoon rain, they wanted the authorities to relay roads swiftly in order to avoid vehicle accidents.

City unit secretary of TUCP S. Kannan said that only those roads that were in the localities where dignitaries resided were being relaid on a selective basis.

Small traders transacting by the roadsides were affected severely, and the roads were unfit for use by autorickshaws, he said.

The protestors also wanted uniform water supply and parity in levy of water charges throughout the Corporation limits.
