Plea to extend water scheme to Pernambut

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - VELLORE:

The Consumers’ Welfare Protection Society of Pernambut has appealed to the Chief Minister to extend the Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) with Cauvery River near Mettur as the source to Pernambut to ease the drinking water scarcity in Pernambut and surrounding areas. In a memorandum, T. Basheeruddin, president of the society said that Pernambut was severely affected by water scarcity.

While it was said that CWSS would address the drinking water needs of all municipal areas in Vellore district, Pernambut Municipality has been left out of the CWSS. He therefore appealed to the Chief Minister to extend the scheme to Pernambut Municipality and surrounding villages.

The society also requested the Chief Minister to ensure that the Bathalapalli reservoir scheme is expedited in order to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of Pernambut Municipality and surrounding villages.
