Members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a demonstration in front of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) depot at Ranithottam here demanding immediate disbursal of dearness allowance arrears (DA) and salary arrears. CITU (Transport) district secretary C. Stephen Jayakumar urged the corporation to disburse the DA arrears of Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500 per employee for 11 months and salary arrears from September 2013 as per a wage pact signed between the trade unions and the government. He said that the corporation recently disbursed DA arrears for only eight months.

Similarly, the salary increase was fixed at Rs. 6,500 for all employees. It should be calculated for each employee as per wage structure and disburse the same. It would work out to Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000 per employee, he said.

There were 5,400 employees, including bus crew, technicians and administrative staff, working with the TNSTC in Kanyakumari district. The total number of buses operated by the corporation from 10 depots was 881, he added.

The demonstrators also sought early payment of gratuity to retired employees.
