Plea to bar release of ‘Vishwaroopam’ dismissed

January 09, 2013 01:56 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:21 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed with costs of Rs.10,000 an application in a suit seeking an injunction restraining Raajkamal Films International and others from releasing the Kamal Hasan-starrer ‘Vishwaroopam,’ pending payment of outstanding dues to an entertainment company.

Justice V.K.Sharma passed the order on an application by Regent Saimira Entertainment Ltd which said that the defendants were liable to pay Rs.10.50 crore along with interest.

During December, the defendants had publicised that the film would be released on January 11. They were not free to commence any new production due to an MOU of April 2008. Such a venture ought to have been undertaken after payment of dues to creditors. Raajkamal Films International submitted that there were no dues payable by it and four others to Regent Saimira Entertainment Ltd.

Totally misconceived

Mr. Justice Sharma said the entertainment company neither had a prima facie case nor was it going to suffer any irreparable loss if no injunction was granted. The application was totally misconceived, he said.
