Perundurai will be ideal location for AIIMS: KMDK

‘It will serve patients in seven districts’

May 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - ERODE:

A campaign to establish the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Perundurai has been planned by the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK).

Employment hub

The campaign by political and social organisations will focus on Perundurai citing industrialisation of the region, the districts of Erode, Karur, Coimbatore and Karur serving as an employment hub and the need for tertiary care in the region affected by water and air pollution, E.R. Eswaran, general secretary, KMDK said.

Rail connectivity

Also, Erode has excellent road and rail connectivity.

The demand for AIIMS in Perundurai is in line with the Confederation of Indian Industry’s emphasis on establishment of a multi-speciality hospital at Perundurai to develop it as a healthcare hub.

The region requires such a facility due to high incidences of cancer and tuberculosis.

The CII has stated in its district development plan for Erode that Perundurai is advantageous for establishment of AIIMS due to existence of a medical college and hospital and a sanatorium spread over 180 acres, good water availability and close connectivity to NH 47.

Vision 2023

The location of AIIMS at Perundurai will also serve patients in seven districts: Karur, Tirupur, Erode, Coimbatore, Namakkal, Salem and The Nilgiris. The setting up of AIIMS in Perundurai will also concur with Vision 2023 for establishment of medi city in Perundurai, Erode, besides help people from neighbouring states.

Also, absence of government medical colleges in Karur, Erode, Namakkal, Tirupur and The Nilgiris districts will not be felt if the AIIMS is located in Perundurai, according to CII.
