Praying for permanent ban on liquor shop in their area, a group of people from Suththamalli submitted a petition in the Collectorate here on Wednesday.

The petitioners said the Indian-Made Foreign Liquor shop, functioning at Suththamalli intersection, was to be removed following an instruction from the Collector. Since this removed liquor shop was likely to be installed at nearby Gomathi Nagar, this residential area would have to witness problems from drunkards.

“Since the Gomathi Nagar area houses a women’s hostel, a non-governmental organisation and a few places of worship, the proposed liquor shop will certainly create problems to the public.

Considering the safety of the public, especially women and children, the Collector should impose a permanent ban on creating liquor shop in this already volatile area,” said S. Zakhir Khan, member of Suththamalli panchayat.
