Perarivalan thanks CM for parole, pleads for permanent release

A.G. Perarivalan, the life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, currently out on a 30-day parole, has thanked Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for his efforts towards securing his parole, besides pleading for steps to release him permanently from jail. His mother Arputhammal handed over his hand-written letter to the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Friday.

Expressing his gratitude to the Chief Minister for releasing him on parole after 26 years, Perarivalan said in his letter that the move had given him new hope.

His leave from prison had given him a chance to visit his ailing father and also to take care of him, Perarivalan said.

“On my behalf and on behalf of my family, I whole-heartedly thank you and the Tamil Nadu governmentfor all the efforts. We are keenly waiting with the anticipation that you would make efforts for [securing] my freedom,” Perarivalan stated.

Mother’s gratitude

Speaking to mediapersons here, Ms. Arputhammal said, “I requested the Chief Minister to make efforts so that my son would be with us permanently. The Chief Minister smiled. I want to marry off my son but he is against it. He is not well and I requested the Chief Minister to help him come out so that we can take care of him.”

She also thanked everyone who worked towards securing her son’s release on parole.

A photograph released by the State government showed Ms. Arputhammal thanking the Chief Minister while holding his hands.
