Perarivalan assured of steps to get copy of President’s communication

State Information Commissioner K.S. Sripathy, who heard the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case death convict Perarivalan lodged in the Central Prison for Men here through videoconferencing from Chennai on Wednesday, assured him that he would take steps to get him copies of the documents sought by him.

During the videoconference, Perarivalan demanded a copy of the President’s communication rejecting the mercy petition filed by him seeking commutation of his death sentence and copies of the reports pertaining to the medical treatment given to him in the Central Prison. Besides, he sought a copy of the letter of permission given by the Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) to an Austrian research scholar Reena Mary George permitting her to interview death convicts in the Central Prison, Vellore, other than the convicts on death row in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
