Pasumai Thayagam to lead delegation to UNHRC

Pasumai Thayagam will lead a delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Council that is slated to deliberate on the international investigative report to be tabled in Geneva in March, on the “war crimes” during the final stages of the war in Sri Lanka in 2009.

“I will be leading my organisation Pasumai Thayagam that is a non-voting member in the UNHRC in Geneva,” said PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, to The Hindu . A four member delegation will attend the UNHRC meet.

Speaking in the wake of the election results in Sri Lanka, Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss said Pasumai Thayagam, as a member with consultative status, is being allotted two minutes, without voting rights.

The UNHRC and the international community should ensure a referendum with the participation of the Tamil diaspora and the Tamils in Sri Lanka, he said.
