Pass percentage drops in Tiruvarur

Tiruvarur district schools registered a drop in overall pass percentage despite sterling performance by some students in the SSLC examinations this year. The district pass percentage of 83.78 was a tad lower than the 84.12 per cent in the previous academic year.

J. Joshvin of St. Joseph's Matric HSS, Mannargudi, scored 499 out of 500 marks to find a place in the State toppers list while three others secured 498 marks and eight others got 497 marks to be ranked third in the State and district.

A. Jayashri of Rahmath Girls HSS, Muthupettai, J. Mufitha Parveen of Brilliant Matric HSS, Muthupettai, and V. Sophia St. Teresa Girls HSS, Tiruthuraipoondi, scored 498 marks.

V. Gayathri of Veludayar HSS, Tiruvarur, B. Preetha of St. Joseph's Girls HSS, Mannargudi, R.K. Farkis Taslima of Mother India HSS, Valachery, S. Srijanani of Kasturba Matric HSS, Tiruvarur, R. Sabarinathan of Bharathidasan Matric HSS, Mannargudi, B. Hariram Prashanth of Asoka Sishu Vihar Matric HSS, Mannargudi, J. Seethala Priya of R.C. Fathima Matric HSS, Tiruvarur, and K. Sashtika of St. Teresa's Girls HSS, Tiruthuraipoondi, all got 497 marks.

From among the government schools S.J. Varsha of GGHSS, Nannilam, and A. Swathi of GGHSS, Koradachery, walked away with the top honours securing 495 marks each. They were followed by S. Bhavya of GHSS, Ullikkottai, who scored 493 marks and Annapoorani of GGHSS, Nannilam, who got 492 marks.

Six government schools have secured 100 per cent pass this year while 36 institutions bagged that honour in this year's SSLC examinations. Of the government schools, the Government Higher Secondary School, Thulajendrapuram, has been hitting the target for the 10th consecutive year.

Overall, in Tiruvarur district, 9,184 boys and 9,742 girls from 206 schools took the SSLC examinations this year of which 7,263 boys and 8,594 girls came out successfully with a pass percentage of 83.78.
