Lawyers owing allegiance to Dr. Ambedhkar Lawyer Protection Forum observed a token fast at Paramakudi on Thursday in protest against the police firing.
It was presided over by forum president Kandasamy. Around 50 lawyers, mostly from Paramakudi, took part in it. Thol. Thirumavalavan, president, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), who came to Paramakudi to meet the relatives of those killed, spoke among the lawyers and expressed his solidarity.
Solatium of Rs.20 lakh to the family of those killed, Rs.5 lakh to the injured, government job to at least a family member of those killed and Central Bureau of Investigation enquiry into the police firing were among the demands pressed by the protestors.
