Panel recommends terms for TNPL project

874.46 acres of land has been; project to cost ₹2,100 crore

The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, has recommended the Terms of Reference for an expansion project proposed by the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited at Mondipatti Village, in Tiruchirapalli district.

The unit currently operates a board manufacturing facilityand has applied for its expansion. “TNPL has proposed to expand the operations by adding a P&W paper machine along with a new chemical hard wood pulp mill, chemical recovery, power plant and utilities,” the minutes of the meeting said.

The proposed plant will be within the existing plant and 874.46 acres of land has already been acquired for the purpose .

The project is expected to provide employment for about 1,000 persons during the construction stage, and 400 direct jobs when the facility becomes operational. The total cost of the project is ₹2,100 crore, according to the minutes.
