Panel members meet Minister on curriculum revamp

New syllabus will be rolled out in phased manner

Members of the High Level Education Committee and the T.N. Curriculum Framework Committee participated in a meeting with the Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan on Thursday to discuss the work carried out so far as part of the curriculum revamp for State board schools.

The revamp for State board schools is being carried out in a phased manner and the new syllabus for Classes 1, 6 , 9 and 11 will be rolled out for the academic year 2018-19.

B. Valarmathi, chairman of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, was also present at the meeting.

Feedback gathered

So far, discussions and seminars have been held with various stakeholders, including teachers, parents and school heads, across the State on the improvements and changes that needed to be implemented as part of the new curriculum.

M. Anandakrishnan, head of the Curriculum Framework Committee and former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, said that following various seminars and interactions with the stakeholders, they were going to consolidate the information they had gathered and proceed to the next phase of work.

“Sub-committees will be formed with teachers and experts who will be involved in the process of developing the syllabus. Following this, work on textbook writing will be initiated,” he said.
