The monsoon was expected to set in soon, ensuring copious flow of water into the dam, TN Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami said.
When his attention was drawn to the opposition from farmers and Opposition parties to the execution of a ‘green corridor’ project between Salem and Chennai — a proposal of the Centre — at an outlay of ₹10,000 crore, Mr. Palaniswami said the project would help industries in the Salem region flourish and aid the overall development of Tamil Nadu.
Infrastructure push
There was a need to create infrastructure facilities to attract entrepreneurs. Many industrial houses had evinced interest in setting up industries in the State, he said, adding that adequate compensation would be sanctioned to those affected by the land acquisition for the project. He urged all sections of society to extend their support to the eight-lane road project.
He said the State government had taken effective steps to protect mineral wealth. The government had decided to market river sand on its own to check illicit sand mining.
He warned that stringent action would be taken against those engaged in the illicit mining of sand and other minerals.
