Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple in Palani will soon have an escalator facility and another rope car for quick transportation of pilgrims to the hill temple. This was highlighted at a review meeting presided over by Minister for Power R. Viswanathan here on Friday. The escalator will be commissioned near elephant path. Proposals had been sent to the government for approval.

On completion of second rope car project at an estimated cost of Rs.17 crore, 1,500 pilgrims will be transported to the hill temple in an hour. Besides, a sum of Rs.1 crore will be spent for infrastructure development in the temple. Drinking water and toilet facilities will be upgraded. Palani municipality should take all measures to keep the temple town clean and tidy and provide basic amenities for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the temple during temple festivals such as Thai Poosam and Panguni Uthiram, he said.

Briefing development of government hospitals, the Minister said that trauma care ward will become operational in the Dindigul Government Hospital shortly. Officials should ban movement of brokers and middlemen in the GH. Steps will also be taken for construction of check dam across Panjanthanki and Pachaiyaru rivers and desilt supply channels to irrigation tanks. To improve drinking water facilities at villages, suitable sites should be identified for sinking bore wells.

Construction of an over bridge across three railway gates on Siluvathur Main road will commence in three or four months. Government order had been received in this connection. Ninety per cent of work on overbridge on Tiruchi Main road will be over shortly, he pointed out.
