Over 200 sovereigns stolen

Over 200 sovereigns of ornaments were looted from a pawn broker shop at Palaviduthi near here in a midnight heist on Friday.

The incident came to light when Rajangam (40), son-in-law of owner Adaikkappan, went to open the shop on Saturday morning. The day-to-day affairs at the shop were being handled by Rajangam, who closed the shop on Friday night.

The DIG of Police, Tiruchi, N.K. Senthamaraikannan, inspected the scene of crime. Forensic experts from Karur lifted finger prints . A sniffer dog was also pressed into service. The robbers had gained entry into the shop from the rear side by breaking open the window.
