Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan on Tuesday said he would take into account the aspirations of the party cadre before deciding on contesting the by-election to the Srirangam Assembly constituency from where former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was unseated.
He said the primary aim of the party was to strengthen the grass roots level organisation to meet long term goals.
“Our immediate aim is to strengthen the organisational structure of the party. Only then can we work on our priorities and that would take a longer duration,” he said. Asked to assess the performance of the AIADMK government without Ms. Jayalalithaa at the helm, Mr. Vasan would only say that any government must respond immediately to people’s demands.
Mr. Vasan charged the Centre was clueless and dithering on many major issues such as bringing back black money, Aadhar, woes of Tamil Nadu fishermen and not effectively dealing with Pakistan’s excesses.
He alleged that the Modi dispensation was trying to push out regional languages while agriculturalists feared that the Centre was extending undue favour to the industrial lobby on the land acquisition ordinance issue.
