AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) leader and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam is likely to undertake a State-wide tour from next month to meet the people and the party cadre.

“We are yet to finalise the dates, but the tour will mostly begin in the first week of June. The agenda is to meet the people and the cadre and seek their opinions on how to go forward; we will also plan for our proposed MGR birth centenary celebrations,” a senior leader who is thrashing out the tour details told The Hindu on Sunday .

Strategy to boost support

The tour is being undertaken as the AIADMK (PTA) has been harping on “developmental and agitational politics”. Meanwhile, Mr. Panneerselvam will preside over a May Day celebration at Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar on Monday evening. Senior leader E. Madhusudhanan will participate in the event in which welfare benefits will be given to people.

The meeting is being held against the backdrop of the recent merger moves [with AIADMK (Amma)] and divergent views emerging from within the OPS faction on how to take things forward. Recently, a resolution passed by the party’s Salem unit, led by veteran MLA S. Semmalai, opposed the potential merger.

Mr. Panneerselvam is likely to speak at the public meeting on Monday and use the opportunity to drum up support among the public. He is expected to reiterate the demands for the ouster of Sasikala and a CBI enquiry into Jayalalithaa’s death.
