Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan said on Sunday that he was in no position now to talk about an alliance between the Congress and the DMK.

“It will be decided by AICC president Sonia Gandhi and DMK president M. Karunanidhi,” he told reporters after meeting Mr. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence.

Senior leader

Mr. Elangovan said that though he had differences with Mr. Karunanidhi, he called on the DMK chief as he was the senior leader of the State.

“We belong to a family of the self-respect movement, and he is a senior member of the family,” said Mr. Elangovan, whose father E.V.K. Sampath worked in the DMK with its founder C.N. Annadurai and Mr. Karunanidhi, then treasurer, before launching the Tamil Desiya Katchi. He subsequently joined the Congress.
