Coimbatore City Crime Branch Police have registered a case of cheating against M.R.P. Eravanan, a relative of Sasikala (former aide of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa) and his personal assistant Mohan on charges of cheating. An All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam member and construction contractor (taking up Government works), Ponnusamy in his complaint said that he was convinced by Mohan that he would get a contract for construction of check dams. In August 2011, Ponnusamy reportedly met Eravanan at his office in Sungam and handed over Rs 5 lakh to his PA Mohan, for getting the contract for construction of check dams, he added.

On realising that there was no such move for construction of check dams, Ponnusamy sought the refund of Rs 5 lakh, but was intimidated by Eravanan, he added. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the two for conspiracy (120-b). Criminal Breach of Trust (406), Criminal Intimidation (506-i) and Cheating (420) of Indian Penal Code.
