The fact-finding mission of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) may find it a Herculean task to elicit information about the April 7 encounter in Seshachalam hills where 20 woodcutters from Tamil Nadu were killed.
Even as the NHRC team arrived in the city, police and Forest department officials appeared clueless about the purpose of the visit.
The team arrived here in two batches on a four-day assignment to probe the alleged encounter.
It may not be easy for the NHRC to gather information about the incident, as officials here are not sure if they can share it.
Details about the encounter have already been provided to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the incident under the supervision of the High Court, and officials foresee trouble if they submit the details to the NHRC team without the prior consent of the High Court.
