‘We acted on cash distribution claim’

A flying squad on Tuesday conducted checks near a resort in Korampallam, where DMK president M.K. Stalin was expected to stay.

The officials, including police and paramilitary personnel, conducted checks on incoming and outgoing vehicles, including Mr. Stalin’s campaign vehicle, escort vehicles and those of his aides. They also checked the belongings of visitors to the resort.

The checks, which began around 5.30 a.m., lasted till 10.30 a.m., shortly before Mr. Stalin arrived.

The officials said the checks were conducted based on complaints regarding distribution of cash for votes. However, they left empty-handed.

Mr. Stalin arrived in Thoothukudi to campaign in support of party candidate M.C. Shanmugaiya for the Ottapidaram bypoll.
