The yeoman service rendered by the nurses to society was recalled during the International Nurses Day celebrations at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) here on Tuesday. The day marked the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, well known as the “Lady with the Lamp”, a philosopher of modern nursing and social reformer.
N. Mohan, Dean, GMKMCH, led the nurses of the hospital, who garlanded the statue of Florence Nightingale on the hospital campus. Later, the nurses lighted the candle to pay respect to the memory of Florence Nightingale.
Dr. Mohan, in his speech, underlined the importance of the day and recalled the nurses’ contribution towards people’s health. The doctors of the hospital and people from various walks of life extended their greetings to the nurses on the occasion.
