The verdict on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate asset case had its impact in the public grievances day here on Monday.
The number of petitioners visiting the Collectorate for the grievance day was one-third of the regular turnout. Collector T.N. Hariharan received 129 petitions only, against the usual 300 to 350 petitions. The crowd was thin in State and private buses across the district.
Many restaurants waited till the announcement of verdict to prepare meals for lunch. The restaurateurs said that there were not many people at their establishments in the morning. Daily wage labourers in general and construction workers in particular did not assemble at the usual spots where they wait for prospective employers.
