Dharmapuri district Superintendent of Police Asra Garg has informed the Madras High Court that there was not even an iota of evidence in the investigation to suggest that the death of E. Ilavarasan was a case of murder.
In a status report filed in the High Court on Tuesday, Mr. Garg recounted the various aspects of the investigation so far and the statements given by key witnesses. He had cited evidence including the freezing of Ilavarasan’s wrist watch at 1.20 p.m (on July 4), the time of impact as well as the time when the Kurla Express passed the spot and the engine pilot’s testimony that he might not have seen the train hitting anybody if the impact was on the side.
He cited statements by Divya and friends who had confirmed that the youth had called them to inform them about his intention to commit suicide. The report also cited the findings of the autopsy done by a team from the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
“The investigation done so far does not reveal any evidence, circumstantial, physical or documentary, to create even an iota of doubt about the case of Ilavarasan’s death being a murder,” Mr. Garg said.
