NLCIL, Anna University team up for incubation centre

Initiative to help develop core business activities of NLCIL

NLC India Limited and Anna University, Chennai, have entered a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to set up an Innovation and Incubation Centre for promoting young innovators in specific focus areas aimed to develop the core business activities of NLCIL.

As per the agreement, the Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD), NLCIL, in collaboration with Institute for Energy Studies (IES), Anna University, Chennai, will set up an innovation and incubation centre, known as Anna University-NLCIL Innovation Hub for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (ANIHEES), to focus on innovation work on identified theme areas, such as value-added products from lignite and ash, lignite quality upgradation, waste heat utilisation, water recovery and emission reduction.

The pact was signed at Neyveli by V. Manoharan, CGM/CARD & Corporate Environment Cell, Head of R&D, NLCIL and L. Karunamoothy, Registrar, Anna University, in the presence of Rakesh Kumar, CMD, R. Vikraman, Director/HR, N.N.M. Rao, Director/P&P, Prabhakar Chowki, Director /Mines, Shaji John, Director/Power, and E. Natarajan, Director, IES, Anna University.

Based on the agreement, Anna University, Chennai, which has been recognised as Atal Incubation Centre and an institution of excellence will set up ANIHEES centre in 3,000 square feet area and also a work station at NLCIL to lead start-ups with support from seed fund by NLCIL with an outlay of ₹4.95 crore for five years.

Proposals invited

Young innovators will be invited with proposals to develop proof of concepts and prototypes.

NLCIL CMD encouraged this collaborative work to focus on sustainable solution for energy and environment related challenges faced by power plants.
