Nine held for robbing pepper traders

The police arrested nine persons for allegedly attacking the employees of a pepper merchant in Kerala and robbing them of Rs. 24.40 lakh. Veerasamy and Nanjan, who were employed by a pepper merchant of Palakkad for procuring pepper stock from the villages in Yercaud and Kolli hills, were attacked by a group of persons when they were proceeding to Panamarathupatti on Friday morning. The police arrested three persons, including Baskar, manager of lodge in Yercaud, on the same day.

On the information furnished by the three, the police on Saturday arrested six more persons, including Rajasekar, employed as a gymnastic teacher in a private school in the city. All of them were remanded in judicial custody.

The police seized the car and two-wheeler from them.
